We are delighted to unveil the latest edition in our automated manufacturing portfolio, a state of the art stoma bag production line designed exclusively for Welland Medical. The introduction of this machine marks a pivotal investment for the company as we continue to expand our manufacturing capacity to meet the growing demand for our innovative range of stoma care solutions.

The new multi-million pound machine, which was delivered to our company headquarters in November 2018, was introduced into full production in January 2019 following an extensive build and validation programme.

The arrival of this fully automated production line could not have come at a better time, after a record-breaking 2018 saw the introduction of 24 hour manufacturing to produce over 20 million stoma bags for patients around the world, a remarkable 16% increase on 2017.

Uniquely designed to deliver improved capability, quality and capacity this new machine will be essential in the delivery of one of our most popular product ranges, Aurum®. As demand continues to grow for this unique range of stoma bags featuring Manuka honey in the skin friendly hydrocolloid, this machine comes much to the delight of Operations Director, David Margetts, who commented: “This machine provides us with the much needed additional capacity we require to support us through a period of sustained high sales growth.”

Expectations for the new machine are high, with forecasts indicating that it will produce upwards of 4 million bags per year and as sales continue to grow in 2019 this extra capacity will provide the Manufacturing department with increased flexibility to schedule and produce the products required to meet the needs of our growing network of worldwide distributors.
